WoW Forever Legacy Points
You earn Legacy Points by completing Legacy Challenges. Points are shared across your account, each character can spend up to 16 of them at launch, and your account can earn up to 65 in total at the start.
How to Earn Legacy Points
Legacy Points come from Legacy Challenges. Blizzard's examples are leveling a specific class and reaching a particular skill milestone. Players who make many alts can collect points from a wider range of challenges, while players focused on one character can go deeper into harder ones. Challenge categories shown in the BlizzCon demo Unconfirmed:
- Exploring
- Leveling Classes
- Increasing Tradeskills
- Earning PvP Ranks
- Maximizing Reputations
- Completing Dungeons and Raids
How many points each challenge gives is Disputed: Wowhead reports one point per challenge, Blizzard Watch reports that mostly meta challenges award points.
What Legacy Points Unlock
- Legacy Tree perks. Spent points unlock ranks in the Adventure, Professions and Resourcefulness trees.
- Legacy Reward Track. Your total earned points unlock cosmetic and prestige rewards such as the Spectral Bear Cub.
How Many Points Can You Spend?
Up to 16 points per character at launch Official. Blizzard intends the cap to keep players from feeling pressured and to help new players avoid falling behind, and plans to expand spending caps later.
The cost of a perk rank has not been published Unconfirmed. The Legacy Planner assumes1 point per rank and says so next to every plan.

Are Legacy Points Account-Wide?
Yes. Legacy Points are shared across all your alts, and each character spends them separately in its own trees. Across rulesets, points stay account-wide except Hardcore: Hardcore progress can carry into other rulesets, but not back.

It depends on what the character is for, and rank costs and unlock order are still unknown. Grouped by goal, the candidates are inLegacy builds by goal. Blizzard itself singles out Well Rested as especially useful for leveling alts.
