WoW Forever Legacy System
The Legacy System is World of Warcraft: Forever's account-wide progression. You complete Legacy Challenges to earnLegacy Points, then spend them on perks in three Legacy Trees: Adventure, Professions and Resourcefulness. Points are shared by every character on your account, but each character spends them separately.
How the Legacy System Works
- Complete Legacy Challenges. Blizzard's examples are leveling a specific class and reaching a particular skill milestone.
- Earn Legacy Points. Points are shared across all of your alts.
- Spend points per character. At launch each character can spend up to 16 points in its own Legacy Trees.
- Keep earning. You can earn up to 65 points at the start. Points beyond the spend cap still count toward the Legacy Reward Track.
Blizzard says the system was built to make leveling alts more rewarding and that the 16-point cap is meant to avoid pressure to do everything at once. Players at the BlizzCon demo describe the in-game interface as three panels: Legacy Challenges, Legacy Tree and Progress Track.
Legacy Challenges
Legacy Challenges look like achievements. The BlizzCon demo showed these categories Unconfirmed:
- Exploring
- Leveling Classes
- Increasing Tradeskills
- Earning PvP Ranks
- Maximizing Reputations
- Completing Dungeons and Raids
Sources disagree on how points are awarded Disputed: Wowhead reports one Legacy Point per completed challenge, while Blizzard Watch reports that mostly the larger "meta" challenges award points. The full challenge list has not been published.

Legacy Points
Legacy Points are the currency of the system. Your account earns them, and each character decides where its share of up to 16 points goes. That split is what makes planning per alt worthwhile: a gathering alt and a leveling alt can use the same points differently.
Legacy Points: how to earn and spend them
Legacy Trees
Blizzard names the first three trees as Professions, Adventure and Resourcefulness. Community transcriptions of the demo list 21 perks; they also show unnamed or "future patch" slots, so the trees are not complete.
Adventure
Leveling and travel: rested experience, earlier talent points, flight paths, camping, bandages, stealth detection and out-of-combat recovery.
Talented · Well Rested · Thrill of Adventure · Frequent Flier · Field Guide · Field Medicine · High Alert
Professions
Tradeskills and gold: skill-up chance, gathering yield, cooking, fishing, vendor prices and commerce crate turn-ins.
Bartering · Working Overtime · Dedicated Study · Bountiful Harvest · Performance Bonus · Luremaster · Master Chef
Resourcefulness
Upkeep and convenience: reputation and honor gains, longer buffs and food effects, reagent-free class abilities, and cheaper deaths.
Diplomat · Permanence · Reagent Economy · Gourmand · For Great Honor · The Quick and the Dead · Reinforce
Blizzard's own examples: Well Rested in Adventure increases rested experience gains and the rested cap ("especially useful for leveling alts"), Bountiful Harvest in Professions increases materials from mining, herbalism and skinning, and Reagent Economy deeper in Resourcefulness removes reagent requirements from class abilities.
Progress Track
The Legacy Reward Track unlocks cosmetic and prestige rewards as your total Legacy Points grow. Blizzard says these rewards give no competitive advantage and names the Spectral Bear Cub as one of them. Rewards seen in the demo:
- Spectral Bear Cub (Pet) — points required not known yet
- Replica Ironforge Air Rifle (Toy) — points required not known yet
- Spectral Bear Tabard (Tabard) — points required not known yet
- Reins of the Spectral Bear (Mount) — points required not known yet
Is Legacy Account-Wide?
Yes for points, no for spending. Legacy Points are shared across all characters, and each character spends them separately in its own trees. Blizzard also states that Legacy Points stay account-wide across rulesets except Hardcore: progress earned in Hardcore can become available in other rulesets, but progress from other rulesets does not flow into Hardcore.
Best Way to Start
No build can be called best yet: the point cost per rank and the unlock order between perks are not confirmed. What you can already do is decide what each character is for.
- Leveling several alts: Adventure perks such as Well Rested and Talented target the leveling journey.
- Gathering and crafting: Professions perks affect skill-ups, material yield, cooking and fishing.
- Buffing, dying less expensively and reputation grinds: Resourcefulness covers upkeep and convenience.
Save one plan per character in the Legacy Planner and revisit it when beta values land. See Legacy builds for perks grouped by goal.

Legacy System FAQ
Is Legacy account-wide in WoW Forever?
Legacy Points are shared across all characters on your account, but each character spends them separately in its own trees. Blizzard says Legacy Points are account-wide across rulesets with one exception: progress from Hardcore can carry into other rulesets, but not the other way around.
How many Legacy Points can you spend?
At launch each character can spend up to 16 points in its Legacy Trees. Your account can earn up to 65 Legacy Points at the start; points beyond what you spend still advance the Legacy Reward Track.
How many Legacy Trees are there?
Three at launch: Adventure, Professions and Resourcefulness. Blizzard plans to add new perks, new columns within existing trees and possibly entirely new trees over time.
When do you unlock Legacy?
Blizzard has not said at what level or point in the game the Legacy panels unlock. This page will be updated once it is confirmed in beta.
