Theorycrafted before the WoW Forever beta (September 17, 2026). The leveling plan follows the proven Classic leveling builds, the talents use the pre-release WoW Forever trees on this site, and ability levels quoted from Classic may differ in Forever. Expect updates once the beta is testable.
Overview
Levels 10–50 · Balance Druid, solo questing and grinding.
Balance levels as a ranged caster that roots, nukes and heals itself. It is slower than Feral in the teens, but from the mid-20s it kills at range with little risk, and Moonkin Form at 40 adds a large armor boost for the mobs that do reach you. The talent path follows the classic Balance leveling route (Improved Wrath, Improved Moonfire, Nature’s Reach, Improved Entangling Roots, Vengeance, Nature’s Grace, Moonglow, Moonfury, Moonkin Form, Improved Starfire). The WoW Forever Balance tree makes it much better for leveling: Improved Wrath now cuts Wrath’s mana cost in half as well as its cast time, Improved Entangling Roots makes Roots deal 75% more damage and survive more damage before breaking, Nature’s Majesty adds 4% crit, and Insect Swarm lives in the Balance tree. Nature’s Grasp and Omen of Clarity are not in the Forever trees; the last points go into Restoration’s Nature’s Focus so mobs hitting you do not push back your casts. The guide ends at 50, after Improved Starfire and Nature’s Focus are complete.
Why this build
- Ranged kills with control. Entangling Roots holds a mob in place while you nuke it from range.
- Cheap filler. Improved Wrath halves Wrath’s mana cost, so you can chain it for most of a fight.
- Self-healing between pulls in caster form, and Moonkin armor for the hits you take in fights.
- Useful in groups: Moonkin Form gives the party 3% crit and you can still Innervate or Rebirth.
Weak spots
- Slow before 20. Levels 10–20 rely on Wrath and Moonfire with few talents; consider bear tanking tough mobs early.
- Mana. Starfire and Moonfire are expensive; drink after most fights until Moonglow and gear catch up.
- Nature-immune and root-immune mobs (elementals, some bosses) shut off Roots and Wrath; use Starfire and Moonfire.
- No healing in Moonkin Form: shifting out costs time and mana when a fight goes wrong.
Talent order by level
One point per level from level 10 to 50. The talent tree above shows the finished level 50 build; use the level slider to see it at any level.
- Levels 10–14 · Improved Wrath 5/5 — 0.5 sec faster Wrath that costs 50% less mana at 5/5: the most important leveling talent in the tree.
- Levels 15–16 · Improved Moonfire 2/2 — +10% damage and crit chance on Moonfire at 2/2; required for Vengeance.
- Levels 17–18 · Nature’s Majesty 2/2 — +4% crit with spells and melee at 2/2, and the prerequisite for Nature’s Splendor.
- Levels 19–20 · Nature’s Reach 2/2 — 20% more range on offensive Balance spells and +4% hit at 2/2.
- Levels 21–23 · Improved Entangling Roots 3/3 — Roots deal 75% more damage and the target can take more damage before breaking free at 3/3.
- Level 24 · Nature’s Splendor 1/1 — Moonfire and Rejuvenation last 3 sec longer, Regrowth 6 sec and Insect Swarm 2 sec.
- Level 25 · Insect Swarm 1/1 — A Nature DoT that also lowers the target’s chance to hit by 2%.
- Levels 26–30 · Vengeance 5/5 — +20% critical strike damage bonus on Arcane and Nature spells at 5/5.
- Level 31 · Nature’s Grace 1/1 — Non-periodic spell crits give 10% faster casting and a shorter global cooldown for 3 sec.
- Levels 32–34 · Moonglow 3/3 — 3% cheaper spells at 3/3, heals included.
- Levels 35–39 · Moonfury 5/5 — +5% Arcane and Nature damage at 5/5: Wrath, Starfire, Moonfire and Insect Swarm all benefit.
- Level 40 · Moonkin Form 1/1 — 360% more armor from items and 3% crit for your party; no heals while in the form.
- Levels 41–45 · Improved Starfire 5/5 — 0.5 sec faster Starfire with a 15% chance to stun for 3 sec at 5/5: a stronger opener.
- Levels 46–50 · Nature’s Focus (Restoration) 5/5 — 70% chance to avoid pushback on Arcane and Nature spells at 5/5, so a mob hitting you no longer delays Wrath.
Key levels
- Level 10 · Bear Form quest. Improved Wrath starts: cheaper, faster Wrath is your main spell.
- Level 15 · Improved Moonfire, then Nature’s Majesty: more Moonfire damage and more crit on everything.
- Level 20 · Starfire, Cat Form and Rebirth. Nature’s Reach adds 20% range and 4% hit.
- Level 21 · Improved Entangling Roots: root, walk back, and nuke from range.
- Level 25 · Insect Swarm from the talent: a second DoT that lowers the mob’s chance to hit.
- Level 30 · Vengeance full: bigger Arcane and Nature crits. Travel Form.
- Level 31 · Nature’s Grace: spell crits speed up your casting for 3 sec.
- Level 40 · Moonkin Form: 360% more armor from items and 3% crit for the party. Hurricane and Innervate.
- Level 45 · Improved Starfire full: 0.5 sec faster Starfire with a 15% stun chance.
- Level 50 · Nature’s Focus 5/5: 70% chance to ignore pushback on Arcane and Nature spells.
How to pull and kill
- Buff Mark of the Wild and Thorns, then shift to Moonkin Form from 40.
- Open with Starfire from maximum range (from 20); a stun from Improved Starfire gives you a free cast.
- Moonfire and Insect Swarm as the mob runs in, then Wrath until it reaches you.
- When it is close, Entangling Roots, walk out of melee range and keep casting Wrath. Improved Entangling Roots lets the root survive some of your damage.
- For a second mob, root it first and kill the other one; Hibernate works on beasts and dragonkin.
- Shift out after the fight, Regrowth or Rejuvenation yourself, drink if needed, and Innervate on long sessions.
Leveling tips
- Bear Form before 20 is a fine way to kill tougher mobs; you keep your mana for heals.
- Intellect and Spirit gear reduce drinking; later, spell damage gear matters most.
- Herbalism fits every druid and pays for training; Alchemy turns herbs into mana potions.
- Pick beast-heavy quest areas for Hibernate and Entangling Roots; avoid elementals that are immune to Nature damage.
- Quest zones by level: Darkshore or the Barrens to 20, Ashenvale, the Barrens or Hillsbrad to 30, Arathi, Desolace, Stranglethorn and Dustwallow to 40, Tanaris, Feralas and the Hinterlands to 50.
- Dungeons: Razorfen Kraul and Scarlet Monastery Graveyard in the 30s, Uldaman and Zul’Farrak in the 40s. Moonkin Form’s party crit is welcome in any group.
After level 50
From 51, finish the Balance tree with Eclipse, Balance of Nature and Genesis, or respec to Feral for the last levels if you prefer faster solo kills.
