Theorycrafted before the WoW Forever beta (September 17, 2026). The leveling plan follows the proven Classic leveling builds, the talents use the pre-release WoW Forever trees on this site, and ability levels quoted from Classic may differ in Forever. Expect updates once the beta is testable.
Overview
Levels 30–60 · Holy Priest, solo questing and grinding.
Smite leveling is the choice for Priests who want to heal groups without a respec. It follows the Classic Smite guides: Divine Fury cuts half a second off Smite and Holy Fire, and Holy Specialization adds crit to both. The Forever trees add much more for Holy damage: Twilight Focus stops mobs from interrupting your casts, Searing Light raises Holy damage, Spiritual Guidance turns part of your Spirit into spell damage (which Spirit Tap doubles), and the Discipline talents Power in Light and Holy Precision make Smite hit harder and resist less. The guide is written for a respec at 30; the order below still starts at level 10 so a new Priest can follow it all the way.
Why this build
- Heals and damages with one spec: you can switch between questing and healing dungeons at any time.
- Casts through melee hits: Twilight Focus gives 70% protection from interruption.
- Burst from range: Holy Fire followed by empowered Smites kills before most mobs reach you.
Weak spots
- Mana hungry: you drink more than a Shadow Priest, especially before Mental Agility and Meditation.
- No slows: mobs always reach melee range, so you rely on Power Word: Shield and Psychic Scream.
- Holy-immune or resistant mobs are rare but slow you down a lot.
Talent order by level
One point per level from level 10 to 60. The talent tree above shows the finished level 60 build; use the level slider to see it at any level.
- Levels 10–11 · Wand Specialization (Discipline) 2/2 — +26% wand damage for finishing mobs cheaply.
- Levels 12–16 · Spirit Tap (Shadow) 5/5 — Kills double your Spirit for 15 sec and keep half your regeneration running while you cast.
- Levels 17–21 · Holy Specialization 5/5 — +5% crit chance with Holy spells, including Smite and Holy Fire.
- Levels 22–26 · Divine Fury 5/5 — Smite, Holy Fire, Heal and Greater Heal cast 0.5 sec faster.
- Level 27 · Holy Nova 1/1 — Damages nearby enemies and heals you, without threat: cheap finishing damage on groups.
- Levels 28–30 · Twilight Focus 3/3 — 70% chance to avoid interruption from damage while casting.
- Level 31 · Blessed Recovery 1/3 — Heals you for 25% of the damage from a crit or a very large hit over 6 sec.
- Levels 32–33 · Searing Light 2/2 — +4% Holy damage, and Holy Fire ticks can make your next Holy Nova free.
- Levels 34–35 · Holy Reach 2/2 — +20% range on Smite and Holy Fire, and a larger Holy Nova radius.
- Levels 36–37 · Blessed Recovery 3/3 — finish the talent.
- Levels 38–42 · Spiritual Guidance 5/5 — Spell damage from 5% of your Spirit and spell healing from 25% of it.
- Levels 43–47 · Power in Light (Discipline) 5/5 — +10% Smite and Penance damage against targets with your Holy Fire.
- Levels 48–50 · Holy Precision (Discipline) 3/3 — +18% hit with Holy spells.
- Levels 51–53 · Mental Agility (Discipline) 3/3 — Smite, Holy Fire and instant spells cost 9% less mana.
- Level 54 · Inner Focus (Discipline) 1/1 — Your next spell is free and has 25% more crit chance.
- Levels 55–57 · Meditation (Discipline) 3/3 — 50% of mana regeneration continues while casting.
- Levels 58–60 · Improved Power Word: Shield (Discipline) 3/3 — +21% shield absorption so Smite casts are never pushed back.
Key levels
- Level 16 · Spirit Tap 5/5: the mana engine for any Priest build.
- Level 26 · Divine Fury 5/5: Smite and Holy Fire cast 0.5 sec faster.
- Level 30 · Twilight Focus 3/3: 70% chance to avoid interruption from damage.
- Level 33 · Searing Light: +4% Holy damage and occasional free Holy Nova.
- Level 42 · Spiritual Guidance 5/5: Spirit adds spell damage; stack Spirit gear.
- Level 47 · Power in Light 5/5: Smite deals 10% more damage to targets burning from Holy Fire.
- Level 50 · Holy Precision 3/3: far fewer resisted Smites.
- Level 57 · Meditation 3/3: half your regeneration continues while you cast.
How to pull and kill
- Power Word: Shield before pulling so the first hits cannot push back Holy Fire.
- Open with Holy Fire (level 20 in Classic) from maximum range; Holy Reach adds range to both Smite and Holy Fire.
- Cast Smite while Holy Fire is still burning so Power in Light applies; add Shadow Word: Pain on tougher mobs.
- Finish low mobs with your wand to save mana, and use Holy Nova when several weak mobs are on you.
- When a fight goes bad, Psychic Scream, then heal yourself with Heal or Flash Heal; Inner Focus makes that heal free.
Leveling tips
- Spirit and Intellect gear: Spiritual Guidance and Spirit Tap both reward Spirit; healer items with Spirit are perfect.
- Wand: keep a good wand for finishing mobs, since Wand Specialization is still part of the build.
- Drink during Spirit Tap: if you must rest, do it right after a kill while regeneration is doubled.
- Dungeons: heal whenever a group is looking; Scarlet Monastery Cathedral (39–45), Uldaman (44–50) and Maraudon (48–54) are good experience.
- Zones: Arathi Highlands and Desolace in the 30s, Feralas and Tanaris in the 40s, Un’Goro Crater, Felwood and Winterspring in the 50s.
- Undead and demons are common in the Plaguelands; Holy damage and Shackle Undead (level 20 in Classic) help there.
After level 60
At 60 this build is close to a dungeon healing spec. Move the Holy Nova, Twilight Focus and Power in Light points into Improved Healing, Spiritual Healing and Spirit of Redemption for raids.
